In Brussels, the MTWTU delegation had a meeting with representatives of the European Transport Workers’ Federation, focusing on the application of European best practice in the field of collective bargaining work.
Its main aim was to develop comprehensive organisational and institutional solutions for the systematic integration of private stevedoring companies into the MTWTU, with a view to improving the level of social and labour protection for maritime transport workers.
The development of Ukraine’s port sector is increasingly taking place with the involvement of private terminal operators, creating a need for new approaches to union cooperation and social dialogue at the enterprise level. Social dialogue remains one of the key tools of the MTWTU’s activities. It is through constructive engagement with employers and government bodies that practical results are achieved.
Consistent work in this area is an important prerequisite for stability and the protection of the rights of the Union’s members.
The experience of the European Transport Workers’ Federation and its affiliated trade unions holds practical value for Ukraine. Given the country’s status as an EU candidate, bringing national legislation into line with European standards is one of the key areas for further integration.
During the meeting, a plan for further work in the field of collective bargaining relations was drawn up. The approaches proposed by our European colleagues will help to improve the protection of MTWTU members’ rights. During the event, the MTWTU also presented information on current projects and key tasks aimed at addressing the pressing needs of union members, particularly in wartime conditions.
