If a seafarer who is a MTWTU member requires expensive treatment, he or she may apply to the Union for financial assistance or partial compensation for medical expenses incurred.
During the period of martial law, documents for medical services received outside Ukraine are accepted for compensation.
Documents required to receive compensation:
- Information certificate from the company indicating the period of the last contract and the term of the next contract, with the name of the planned vessel and the length of service in the company;
- A document confirming the receipt of services (hospital discharge summary, receipts for payment of medicines, etc.);
- Seafarer’s service record book
- Passport;
- Taxpayer Identification Number;
- Union Membership Card;
- UAH Account Details in the seafarer's name.
Compensation of Expenses for Recovery
Under the joint program of the MTWTU and LBSTUS, a MTWTU seafarer may receive partial reimbursement of the costs of sanatorium treatment received in the territory of Ukraine.
Documents required to apply for reimbursement:
- Information certificate from the company indicating the period of the last contract and the term of the next contract, with the name of the planned vessel and the length of service in the company;
- Seafarer’s service record book;
- Original receipt for treatment;
- Reverse ticket to the voucher or sanatorium book;
- Passport;
- Taxpayer Identification Number;
- Union Membership card;
- Children’s Birth Certificate (if applying for partial reimbursement of the costs of sanatorium treatment of children);
- UAH Account Details in the seafarer's name.
The amount of assistance depends on many factors, including Union membership length, frequency of requests, active participation in Union activities, and reasons for financial hardship.
