On December 11, there was held a briefing “Protection of Seafarers’ Rights inside and outside Ukraine, as a part of the Maritime Law Week at the National University “Odessa Maritime Academy”.
The briefing’s key speaker was Oleg Grygoriuk, MTWTU First Vice Chairman, who spoke about the Union’s role in the labor protection system for Ukrainian seafarers, working for foreign shipowners.
“The MTWTU today is the only maritime ITF affiliate in Ukraine, and the only ITF Inspector in our country, Nataliya Yefrimenko, is also an employee of our Union,” Oleg Grygoriuk stressed. “The MTWTU solely is entitled to conclude agreements of the IBF standard with shipowners, who are members of the International Maritime Employers’ Council (IMEC).”
He also briefed the participants on processing seafarers’ claims within the Union, gave advice on how to avoid employment scammers and spoke about the establishment of the MTWTU Maritime Information Center, opened with the support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to address criminalization of seafarers.
The briefing continued with the presentation from the Union on imposition of martial law in Ukraine.
