Support Captain Gavrylov

The MTWTU still receives letters of support for Captain Gavrylov, a Ukrainian seafarer who has been detained in Sri Lanka for the last three years.

Recently, we got the copy of the Swedish Union SEKO letter to His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

With this letter our colleagues express their concern about the situation and urges Sri Lankan authorities to intervene in the case to release captain Gavrylov and allow him return home.

Recalling that Gennadiy Gavryov, the Master of Sri Lankan flagged vessel AVANT GARDE (IMO 8107036), was detained in Sri Lanka in June 2016, restricted in his ability to contact his family, has been prevented from leaving Sri Lanka and is prevented from earning a living. Furthermore, the captain’s critical health condition also requires his speedy return home to receive the necessary treatment.
