Senegal is the 94th member State to have ratified this Convention.

On 19 September 2019, Senegal became the 94th member State of the International Labour Organization to ratify the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006) . This Convention establishes the minimum working and living standards that apply to all seafarers working on ships. The 94 States that have ratified the MLC, 2006 represent more than 91 per cent of world gross tonnage.

This ratification reflects the Senegal’s desire to expand its fleet and create decent employment opportunities for seafarers. Senegal has long played an important role in supporting promotional campaigns for the MLC, 2006 in West Africa.

The MLC, 2006, will enter into force in Senegal on 19 September 2020, one year after the deposit of its instruments of ratification.
