MTWTU calls for constructive dialogue

The sharp increase of training services tariffs and disability of the State Qualification Commissions to provide work of the Inspectorate for the training and certification of seafarers in Mariupol, Kherson, Izmail achieved great public impact among seafarers.

Video recording of the round table procedure, which was organized by MTWTU, in a matter of days, gained more than 10,000 views, hundreds of comments and messages. The issue was also announced to the President of Ukraine during his working visit to the Danube Region. Moreover, there was created an electronic petition on the President’s official website, which was supported by more than 2,000 signatures in 5 days.

According to the results of the Roundtable, the Trade Union prepared and sent a letter to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. In the message, the MTWTU described the situation, requested immediate intervention and taking the necessary measures to enable seafarers to receive high-quality and timely service from state institutions, as well as to protect the constitutional right of Ukrainian citizens to free choice of working conditions, which is guaranteed by the President.

Currently, the MTWTU is analyzing information obtained during the round table in order to develop specific proposals for the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Maritime Administration of Ukraine and the Inspectorate for the training and certification of seafarers.

This process engages seafarers, lawyers, reputable experts with years of experience in the maritime industry. The MTWTU also investigates into other countries’ experience of organizing simulator training for seafarers and assessing their professional competence on sea vessels.

The MTWTU will prepare a detailed map of the necessary organizational and legislative initiatives soon. The implementation of such actions will reduce potential corruption risks and ensure that seafarers receive quality services at all stages of training, simulator training, and knowledge testing.

We invite all concerned parties to join the site created by the MTWTU for constructive dialogue and the development of immediate effective solutions.
