MTWTU warns the seafarers

The MTWTU has obtained information from the seafarer staying onboard the mv AXIS (IMO 9041502, Panama flag) at the Cotonou, Benin anchorage.

There are 9 crewmembers onboard including 3 Ukrainian citizens, 2 Filipinos and 4 Panama citizens, and there are 5 seafarers including all 3 Ukrainians whose employment contracts have expired.

As one of the seafarers told, there are outstanding wages for three months, lack of provision and fresh water, and troubles with the electricity onboard.

We also note that it is not the first claim concerning this vessel.

The claim is being processed by the ITF head office in London.

MTWTU addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for further clarification

Following the announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine of a temporary suspension of consular actions in foreign diplomatic missions on applications of Ukrainian male citizens aged 18 to 60 years (except for actions related to issuing identity cards for returning to Ukraine), the MTWTU received numerous requests from seafarers, citizens of Ukraine, who are abroad.
