MTWTU & ver.di held Dockers' Seminar

Today, at the Dockers' Seminar organized by Marine Transport Workers' Trade Union of Ukraine and German trade union ver.di, the participants discussed modern automated cargo handling technologies in seaports and requirements for the training of port workers.

Thus, the seminar was attended by: Head of ver.di Maritime Section Maya Schwiegershausen-Güth, Head of agreements unit ITF FOC campaign from ver.di Susana Pereira-Ventura, Workers’ Council Chairman from HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder Thomas Mendrzik, as well as Ukrainian dockers and trade union activists of the maritime educational institutions. The MTWTU Chairman Oleg Grygoriuk moderated the seminar.

Within the seminar framework, foreign colleagues shared their experience as a European trade union.

“There are two options for the trade unions in automation: to fight it, or to adjust to it and generate benefits for the workers they represent. Our experience shows that so far everyone who fought against automation has lost,” concluded Head of ver.di Maritime Section Maya Schwiegershausen-Güth.
