The newest communication technologies in action

At the 44th ITF Congress have been demonstrated a unique mobile container that allows seafarers to keep in touch with their families in ports with absent or limited access to the network.

Portable communication pod is a project of ITF Marine Trust Fund.

The launch of this project was announced over a year ago, and now the container is ready to accept seafarers. The Pod is equipped in a real container and tooled up with five tablets, a plasma panel and five seats for users with own gadgets. It also distributes wi-fi within a 40 meters, which allows to use it for those seafarers who can't approach to the Pod for some reasons.

The container is powered by solar pannels and may also be equipped with air conditioning or any other additional devices, depending on temperature, weather and other conditions in the port.

The container production term is about 2 months, but the main problem of its installation, according to representatives of the Trust, is the approval of the port authorities.

Totally at the moment 5 such kind of containers are ready for usage. Specifically, this one will be forwarded to the port of Jakarta after the Congress.
