Pavlo Klimkin visited Maritime Information Center of the MTWTU

Today, October 18, representatives of the Maritime Transport Workers' Trade Union of Ukraine hosted the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine headed by the Minister Pavlo Klimkin.

Georgy Kutyanin, the Vice-Chairman of the MTWTU, informed the delegation about the main activities,work priorities and tasks of the Trade Union.

The main subject of the discussion was the results of activity of the MTWTU' Maritime Information Center, supportted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The Maritime Information Center of MTWTU was established on June 28, 2018, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Later, on July 2, 2018, MTWTU and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine have signed a Memorandum on expanding cooperation in provision of assistance to Ukrainian seafarers, who got into a crisis situation abroad as a result of emergency.

Thus, during June-July, all together with the MTWTU, ITF, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and its diplomatic missions abroad, as well as with companies' representatives, attorneys, 57 Ukrainian seafarers was repatriated to Ukraine.

“For now we have already acheived the joint results we can be proud of,” - said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Pavlo Klimkin. “But the crucial is that our cooperation functions two ways: information and legal practices exchange, and also work from the both levels at the same time: at the political and Trade Union levels. I hope together we will establish a significant network of such kind of information centers as in Odessa, Kherson and Izmail. Because the most important is to warn our citizens and to prevent the actions that may lead to crisis situations. I am really grateful to my friends - Maritime Transport Workers' Trade Union of Ukraine for such an effective cooperation”

MTWTU addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for further clarification

Following the announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine of a temporary suspension of consular actions in foreign diplomatic missions on applications of Ukrainian male citizens aged 18 to 60 years (except for actions related to issuing identity cards for returning to Ukraine), the MTWTU received numerous requests from seafarers, citizens of Ukraine, who are abroad.
